Event description

Encounters with employees

I am getting in touch to ask whether you would consider getting involved with our

‘Encounters with Employees Event’

taking place between Monday 25 March to Thursday 28 March 2024 here at Ridgeway High School.

If you have previously supported this event, you will notice that it is slightly earlier this year. This is so that all students have the opportunity to meet an employee.

We would like our students to hear from people currently in the world of work and have a meaningful encounter to help them gain greater understanding and awareness of employment and potential career journeys. This is a valuable opportunity for students to gain information about different sectors and to understand how they could enter into different professions.

At the heart of our school’s ethos is LEARN, (Leadership, Endurance, Aspiration, Respect and Nurture). By giving students the chance to engage with real employers who are able to give first-hand accounts of their own experiences, we are able to raise aspirations.

The format for the week will involve students opting for one session each based on a sector that they are interested in.

For you as a visitor this would mean that we require one hour of your time during that week. During that hour, you will be required to deliver a presentation about your sector (around 40mins), and hold a question & answer session with students (around 10mins). All of which will be supported and facilitated by a member of school staff.

The one-hour slots will be during a variety of lesson times as follows:

Period 1 08:45 – 9:45

Period 3 11:00 – 12:00

Period 5 13:35 – 14:35

Period 6 14:35 – 15:35 (Tuesday and Wednesday only)

Information we would need from you-

On the day, we will provide:

A classroom where you will present. This will have a TV screen and seats for around 30 students.

The room will be set up in rows, this can be altered if you inform us know prior to arriving at school.

A laptop. This has the facility to offer sound as well. Please bring your presentation with you on a USB or feel free to email it to futures@ridgeway.wirral.sch.uk prior to arriving at school.

Refreshments

We expect that you will have a busy work schedule and therefore really appreciate you considering coming to our school to meet with our students and provide such a valuable insight into the world of work! This experience is something they will remember and likely have a significant influence on their future plans.
