Scottish Careers Week 2023: Shape the Future

We invite you to be part of Scottish Careers Week 2023 designed to encourage Scotland’s young people to think about their future skills and shine a light on the career opportunities available to them. If you can't manage this time or date but would like to take part, please get in touch as there are multiple sessions available.

Are you ready to shape the future of young people across Scotland? We invite you to be a part of the third annual Scottish Careers Week, an online event hosted on Microsoft Teams. This week is about informing and inspiring pupils to think about their future skills and discover the incredible opportunities awaiting them.

This session is part of a week of Career Inspiration events organised by Skills Development Scotland, Education Scotland and other partners.

These Career Inspiration Sessions run from Monday 13th to Friday 17th of November and are open to all schools in Scotland. They are hosted by e-Sgoil - Scotland's National online school and are a great way for you to showcase your company and industry to the future workforce.

Each session will be a concise 30 minutes long, featuring a 20-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes of engaging Q&A. You can choose from multiple daily time slots: 9.45 am, 10.45 am, 11.45 am, and 1.45 pm.

While a comprehensive Speakers’ Brief will be sent to all participating volunteer role models closer to the event, the session format encourages speakers to share their insights, lessons, and tips. Your goal is to motivate and inspire students to make informed decisions about their future by sharing your own career journey. Here's what we'd love for you to cover:

Your Role: Explain your current job role and responsibilities.
Inspiration: What motivated you to choose this career path and how it has been the perfect fit for you.
Skills in Action: Highlight the key skills you use daily, including both technical and soft skills like communication, collaboration, problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork.
Support System: Discuss the individuals who have played a pivotal role in supporting your career journey.
Educational Path: Share the subjects you studied and how they are relevant to your current role.
Triumphs and Challenges: Talk about your successes and the valuable lessons you learned from any setbacks.

Following your presentation, there will be an engaging Q&A session, allowing students to ask questions via the chat function.

If the time slot you've been invited to doesn't work for you, don't worry! Simply contact us at community@founders4schools.org.uk, and we'll be happy to offer you an alternative time.

How Will Students Benefit?

Participating students will gain invaluable insights from real-life role models who bring the classroom curriculum to life. Our role models bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, helping students understand the real-world implications of their studies. These interactions are incredibly popular as they provide a comprehensive learning experience in a single setting.

These meaningful encounters have a lasting impact, informing and inspiring students and positively influencing their future life choices.
