About the teacher and students

The event was created by Caroline Wilson for 100 students at Madani Girls' School aged Age 15 - 15.

Event description

Girls in Mathematics - A day for girls to explore where mathematics could take them.

We are running a day of activiites to showcase the importance of mathematics. The event is for Girls from Girls schools in the South and East Midlands (Predominantly Northants and Leics) Speakers can drop in for a 45-60 minute slot or stay with us all day, delivering a session and taking part in a plenary. Our mission (as AMSP) is to encourage students, particularly girls to consider maths at level 3 and beyond.

Speakers will ‘tell a story’ about their career journey (up to 30mins):
• How maths played a part and how maths is relevant now
• What inspired them to choose their career path
• Their failures, as well as successes
• What their company does and why this is important
• What they enjoy most about their career
• Skills currently relevant in the jobs they are doing now.
Any demonstrations of the maths involved in their current career to get the students actively involved would be particularly welcome - we can help with copying of materials etc

Q&As will follow to end the session.
