Event description

Understanding Manufacturing Processes

This request is for a Manufacturing Operations Professional to come into talk to a class of 25 S5s Business Education Students. As part of their Higher course they need to develop their understanding of the importance of effective operations systems to large organisations. They learn about the relevant theories, concepts and procedures used by organisations to improve and/or maintain quality, and the importance of satisfying both internal and external customers’ needs. The teachers feel that a professional coming in from a manufacturing operation and talking about their role and operation would make the curriculum come alove for the young people. In particular, the teachers would like to the young people to hear about choosing and management of suppliers, what to do when a supplier is poor; methods of production - just in time, quality management, environmental factors, ethical issues and lastly the role of technology systems in production (Production order management systems, inventory management, CAD/ CAM systems etc.). These talks could happen over a number of sessions. The young people are available on Wednesdays 12.20 - 13.08 or Thursdays 12.20 - 13.08 during the spring term time (Thurs 5/1/2023 – Fri 10/2/2023; Mon 20/2/2023 – Friday 31/3/2023).
A date has been suggested but this is flexible.
