The event was created by Carole Portman Smith for 50 students at Brunel University aged Age 14 - 15.
Event description
The Brunel Urban Scholars Families and Friends Day.
The Urban Scholars is a unique sustained Widening Participation intervention programme based at Brunel University. Students are drawn from across 31 secondary schools , many from challenging circumstances. They attend one Saturday a month for three years The programme has 4 key aims.
Aim 1: Increased engagement with learning
Aim 2: Increased academic achievement
Aim 3: Increased aspirations including orientation to Higher Education
Aim 4: Increased understanding of self and life-world.
The programme has been researched for impact and findings indicate that outside speakers as role models play a key part in helping us achieve our stated aims.
