About the teacher and students

The event was created by Georgina Watson for 250 students at Meridian High School aged Age 14 - 15.

Event description

MHS- Careers Day - We hope to further strengthen our core values of challenge, learn, achieve, resilience, ambition and respect. We are flexible on what time you can commit to.

We invite volunteers to attend and deliver talks on their industry, their career path and can be flexible on the times that they attend. Please let us know.

Our school day runs to these timings:

9.00 10.00am period 1
10.00 - 11.am period 2
Break
11.15 - 12.15 period 3
12.15 - 1.15pm period 4
Lunch
1.45pm to 2.45pm period 5

Business volunteers will share insights, lessons and tips to motivate and inspire your students to make informed decisions about their future. The majority of our students are from disadvantage households. We would love to host speakers who speak of over coming challenges and demonstrating the resilience to build success.

Subjects they studied and how these are relevant now - especially subjects they may not have actually enjoyed and how these have proved beneficial

What inspired them to choose their career path - how this may have changed and how education and training facilitate the ability to be agile in career progression

Their failures, as well as successes

What their company does and why this is important - we hope to broaden their horizons of UK companies and employment opportunities. How their companies and the roles within it have changed and adapted over time.

What they enjoy most about their career

Skills currently relevant in the jobs they are doing now.

Predictions for future careers in an ever developing world.
