Women in STEM Speed Networking Event
We are Newstead Wood School, a selective female secondary school based in Orpington.
Considering that the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) is mainly a male industry, we would like to encourage more of our female students to study these subjects.
Therefore we are organising a Women in STEM speed networking event on
Monday 11th July 2022 9am-12:40
Where female volunteers will be talking to Year 10 students about various career paths, such as mathematics, medicine and more.
Volunteers, like yourself, will be speaking to approximately 10 students at once, for around 15 minutes per session. There will be 16 sessions, to allow students to rotate and hear from all volunteers.
We view this as an informal chat question and answer session. Some ideas of how to proceed with your talk, could be to cover the following
• What is it like to work in your sector
• What your career path has been like to far
• The subjects you studied at school to arrive at your current position
• The higher education pathway you choose
• Why you love the subject
• Why students should consider a similar career
There is no need to have a formal presentation and in fact would welcome 1-2 “props” that visually demonstrate what you do. This would make each session fun and interactive for the year 10 students, but also informative.
The event will start from 8:45 and will end at 12.40pm with a break at 10.40. We would appreciate it if you could arrive in good time so we can start promptly at 8.45.
The school address is Avebury Road, Orpington, BR6 9SA. Parking in our car park is available
