Event description

Inspire our students via "careers speed dating"

Can you support our careers event on 14 June?

You have the opportunity to support the event for the whole 4 hours of lessons (10 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 3 pm), or to attend for 2 hours only (either 10 am to 12 noon or 1 pm to 3 pm). Lunch is from 12 noon to 1 pm.

If you can support our event, please indicate which of the above times you can do.

Aims and format of the day:

• The learning objective of employer “speed-dating” is career exploration. We feel our students sometimes have a narrow careers focus, so the day is about exposing them to a range of different careers, with a view to encouraging them to widen their career horizons.
• Small groups of students (4-6 students this year) will “speed-date” with a range of employers to get a “taste” of the different careers.
• The students will be tasked with investigating your job e.g. what it involves, what you enjoy/dislike about it, the skills, qualities and qualifications needed for it.
• Please note, students are naturally curious about salaries, so you may want to prepare some general information for your industry/job.
• We are also going to get our students to ask employers about job trends for your occupation (labour market information). Are there likely to be more or fewer jobs in the future?
• In previous years visitors have found it useful to bring small props/equipment to aid the speed dating process.
• The day will consist of 4 lessons (1 hour each) from 10 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 3 pm. Lunch is 12 noon to 1 pm (provided).
