About the teacher and students

The event was created by Jeremy Dawson for students aged Age 15 - 16.

Event description

Durham University Maths Easter Lecture and Careers Inspiration @ The Calman Learning Centre

An afternoon event hosted at Durham University’s Calman Learning Centre with a focus on showcasing why Maths is interesting and how studying Maths or Stem based subjects will open the doors to an interesting and rewarding career. The first part of the afternoon (1:00-2:00p.m.) will be a Maths Enrichment lecture delivered by Prof Paul Glaister of Reading University. This will be followed by a short careers talk and then 4-6 Post Graduate/ Business Professionals who will explain:

About their career journey:

Subjects they studied and how these are relevant now

What inspired them to choose their career path

Their failures, as well as successes

What their company does/research is and why this is important

What they enjoy most about their career

Skills currently relevant in the jobs they are doing now."
