About the teacher and students

The event was created by Hy5kpqdbabzbxmdopuffgb for 200 students at Dixons Fazakerley Academy aged Age 13 - 14.

Event description

Big Bang @ School

This session allows students to discover careers they may not have heard of before and their challenge perceptions about roles in STEM and the use of STEM knowledge through a fun ‘2 truths and a lie’ style activity followed by an opportunity for questions and answers.

What do you panellists need to do?
1. Decide on your job title which is describable to students aged 11-18.
2. Write down three ‘facts’ about yourself/your job: 2 fact, 1 fiction.
3. Send this list across add of the event, you can include pictures that link with the fact if you wish.

Session structure
1. Host and panellists arrive 15 minutes before for a technical check
2. Students’ complete starter activity (potentially before live link activate) – sheet of STEM myths, do they think they are true or false.
3. Host starts the session and welcomes participants (including platform ‘housekeeping’)
4. Panellists’ quick introductions (name, job, company, and the favourite thing about your job)

  1. Fact or fiction round. Each panellist will present their three ‘facts’. Students vote using the polls’ function whether they think they are ‘fact or fiction’

  2. Correct answers are revealed, and the panellist explains their ‘facts’ in a little more depth

  3. Activity continues with the other two panellists

  4. Answers to the pre-activity are revelled

  5. General Q+A with the panellists’ roles in the sector, where students can either type their question into the ‘chat’ box or use their microphone to speak directly
