Event description

Languages & the World of Work
THIS EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE VIA MSTEAMS

We have aspirations for our young people and would like them to aim high.

Role Models in the business world and their valuable experience would help our pupils understand what is needed to achieve this.

We want to develop the skills of young people helping them to gain a broader understanding relating to gaining and sustaining employment.

We want to demonstrate how effective communication and cultural awareness as well as knowing other languages are important skills in the workplace.

We are also keen to demonstrate to student’s how studying a language can open a world of opportunities to them. I am looking for volunteers who use or have used languages in their working life to come and give a short career talk. I would like them to hear about the importance of good communication skills, and problem-solving skills in the world of work.

In this session, we would like speakers to share insights, lessons, and tips to motivate and inspire your students to make informed decisions about their future.

Speakers should tell a story’ about their career journey:

• Subjects they studied and how these are relevant now

• What inspired them to choose their career path

• Their failures, as well as successes

• What they enjoy most about their career

• How languages have helped them.

How will Students Benefit?

These events help students learn about a range of attributes to boost employability and to prepare for the world of work.
In addition to this, students will gain an in-depth understanding of why soft skills such as communication & problem solving, and languages are important within the workplace.

Age Appropriacy: This type of event is appropriate for any student aged 5 through 24. Refer to our white paper pages 9 and 11 for more details. This white paper summarizes more than 100 externally validated research papers on career pathways for students.
