Event description

Girls Into Maths

This 1 hour session will form part of a afternoon of girl-centric maths promotion, organised by the Advanced Maths Support Programme.
The afternoon will begin with a talk by Dr Aiofe Hunt exemplifying how powerful and creative maths can be.
This will be followed by a one hour session in which leaders from diverse areas of life (business, arts, academia, political life) describe how their life trajectory has been affected by their relationship with maths.
This will be followed by an interactive session, in which the students get a chance to ask the visiting leaders about their experience. This will take place at the same time as a problem-solving fair.

During the second session, speakers will ‘tell a story’ about their career journey (up to 10mins):
• How maths played a part and how maths is relevant now
• What inspired them to choose their career path
• Their failures, as well as successes
• What they enjoy most about their career
• Skills currently relevant in the jobs they are doing now.
