Inspire our Students to design their own future, including Parent Carer session
The school is holding a World of Work week 7 - 11 October 2019. The purpose of the week is to showcase and inspire our young people and to give them insights into the different pathways and career opportunities available to them. The theme of the week is 'Design your future' and will comprise of different workshops and presentations involving all year groups throughout the week.
On Thursday 10 October we are hosting a day long industry showcase - a 'careers fair' with a difference - and we would love for you or your organisation to be part of the day. The idea is for every year group to spend one period (50 minutes) attending the showcase - a room full of industry, third sector, universities and colleges. We would like to make the event as interactive as possible and pupils will be given clues and prompts to get them speaking to as many stall holders as possible.
The day will begin at 8.55 and will finish at 3pm. Fellow parents, as well as pupils from other local high schools, will be invited to attend towards the end of the day. We would love you to meet all pupils but understand if you can only stay for part of the day.
In addition, we are looking to run short workshops on the other days throughout the week and have a number of businesses already on board. If you can run any workshops with specific year groups, looking at a particular industry, skillset (interviewing, applications, online identify etc) or team challenge we'd love to hear from you - hamiltona06s@glow.sch.uk.
Parents are invited to attend from 1om onwards. Children look to their parents and carers for guidance and advice, so it is crucial that parents are well informed about the changing world of work, the opportunities available to young people after they leave school and the skills necessary to gain employment.
Parent Carer sessions will help parents and carers actively support their young people with their career decisions and prepare them for successful futures. This will ultimately help in ensuring that all young people are better informed about, and prepared for, the changing world of work.
