Event description

Inspire our TEACHERS!

We are running an introduction to teaching Art and Design using Processing and other digital tools for secondary school teachers (and Year 6 primary teachers). And we are looking for wonderful industry leaders like you to come along and talk to them. You will NOT be needed all day! More info on the course below...

"This FREE course is for Art and Design teachers and Computing teachers. We are particularly keen to see teachers from both departments so that they can support each other in introducing digital art and design in their schools.

We will look at projects for introducing digital art and design as well as the underlying skills needed and pedagogy for teaching this area. No prior experience is needed of programming; this is an introductory course. The software that will be used for the course is Processing a language for learning how to code within the context of the visual arts. Processing is free for schools to use, downloadable from www.processing.org. We will also look at other free tools for rough prototyping.

As part of the course, we will introduce techniques for teaching programming such as code reading, use modify create and PRIMM as well as the basic building blocks for art-based programs such as loops.

We would like teachers to implement the learning that they gain from the course in school. As part of this, we will support teachers to undertake a case study. The case study could be introducing digital art and design as part of an afterschool club, as a lesson or as a sequence of lessons."
