These business leaders have been chosen because their companies are growing quickly.
The event was created by Stephen Watson for 250 students at The James Young High School aged Age 11 - 12.
S1 Step into STEM Information and Engagement Session
This is an annual event where we warmly invite individuals from STEM careers to enthuse our first year students as early as possible and enlighten them of any opportunities in the industry.
I am aware this may not be something some of you have done before, but I really hope you consider this and think of the experiences that come from doing an event of this caliber.
There are roughly 220 students that will be involved in this event and they will be split into 2 groups (roughly 110 at one time). The learners will then visit stalls that you will have set-up and the way in which you do this is entirely up to you. The stalls preferably should have an interactive station where learners can engage and have a hands on experience of your industry. I am aware this is not entirely possible so if that is the case posters, information leaflets and enthusiastic conversation will suffice. If you are in an industry where a real-life situation is not possible, such as bridgework construction, then a smaller model where learners can be involved in would be a brilliant example of how to get learners involved.
Half the cohort will be with yourself walking around (supervised) for roughly 1.5hrs and will be speaking to you to gain an understanding of careers available. This information will be submitted into a workbook they can refer to later to assist them of decisions in STEM. The other half of the cohort will be working closely with science teachers in order to produce documentation on 'My World of Work'. This side of the event is with internal staff, but that is the basis of the event. After this time, the groups will switch and you will have the opportunity to discuss your career and industry to another cohort.
Please really consider this event and like I mentioned, this is a fantastic experience and allows our learners (and myself) opportunities to network.
Many thanks for your consideration and if you are interested then please accept this invitation and ask me any questions. Further details will also be provided if you are interested.
Many thanks
Have an brilliant day!
