Innovation and Entrepreneurial Work Experience
Many young people struggle to find a meaningful work experience placement - either they can find none, or they’re reduced to making tea and not gaining a realistic flavour of work. Working in partnership with NoTosh we plan to provide a programme based on entrepreneurial skills, plus the skill set and experience of St Andrew’s RC Secondary in providing rich experiences for a wide range of students, will allow us to create a programme that could eventually benefit thousands of kids across Scotland and beyond.
We are arranging an event from the 11th -14th June in Our School for upwards of 150 of our S5 pupils transitioning to S6. The event is an entrepreneurial exercise which involves the pupils brainstorming problems in their local community and coming up with solutions. To help manage this event, and to give the pupils an outsider to bounce ideas off, I need volunteers from Industry that can mentor a group over the course of the exercise.
We need one mentor per 10 pupils as a minimum over the Wed-Fri (no mentors would be needed on the Tuesday) to ensure that every group has a chance to interact with an "Industry Expert". This would not need to necessarily be you but I would appreciate if you could put word around your companies to see if anyone was available. Mentors would not need to be there for all 3 days, although that would be the preference, but we would need commitment for a full school day (0900 - 1500). We would also be more than happy for Graduates, Apprentices, those working towards Chartership etc. to be involved.
