Event description

Inspire our students
(Business in the Community Event)

An excellent opportunity for entrepreneurs and business volunteers to take part in a new and exciting fully funded project targeted at raising the aspirations of young people.

The Enterprise Challenge workshop is a half day workshop led by Business in the Community (BITC). We at BITC know employers seek young people with good enterprise and entrepreneurial skills. However, we also know young people need help and support developing these skills and overcoming barriers to employment.
Help us shape the talent pipeline of the future. Join us at our enterprise event and help local, young people develop essential enterprising skills such as creative thinking, taking initiative, problem solving, leadership, decision making and communication.
It is vital we equip the future generations with the skills and mindsets young people need to navigate the world of work. You do not have to be a business owner to volunteer at this event. If you have ever been willing to take risks or show initiative, overcome hurdles or undertake new ventures, then young people need your advice and guidance.
The commitment from Business Ambassadors is up to 4 hours from 8.15am – 12.35pm The session will be led by BITC with the support from teachers and Business Ambassadors.
How the session will work - The session will take place in the hall with up to 150 students together, they will be spilt into small groups of 10 students and a Business Ambassador will be assigned to each group. Your role will be to:-
● To listen – young people will be developing skills and consequently, feeling nervous about networking, sharing ideas and possibly presenting. Remember these young people are young and will need your support to take these steps.
● To talk about your role/job and how you got to where you are today – it doesn’t matter if you haven’t had a straight forward career, it is incredibly valuable for young people to meet people with different careers and backgrounds.
● To be honest and open about the world of work and expectations of business - it will help young people understand what having a job involves.
● To talk about the importance of individual attributes / personal qualities and enterprise skills in the work place. This will be extremely valuable for young people and it will help boost their confidence.
● To engage young people in conversation, to help inspire and motivate them and encourage them to be more confident in their abilities.
● To help students feel at ease and give positive feedback
Throughout the session the students will take part in set activities. These will include icebreakers, the ‘Shipwrecked Challenge’ Becoming an entrepreneur – develop a mobile phone app, support the students with preparation for their pitches and finally to rotate around the groups to hear each groups pitches and feedback.
The event will be facilitated by the BITC team, so you are not required to prepare or bring anything with you, other than a willingness to share your experiences. Most importantly however, be enthusiastic and inspirational.
In preparation, BITC will be offering a webinar session in advance of the delivery date to familiarise Business Ambassadors with the content and expectations and to deliver classroom confidence and safeguarding.
