About the Business Leaders

These business leaders have been chosen because their companies are growing quickly.

About the teacher and students

The event was created by Mike Pipe for 150 students at Holy Trinity Catholic School aged Age 14 - 14.

Event description

Guess my Job - To improve knowledge of the variety of jobs in different sectors, and the training routes into these jobs.

Please dress in a manner not normally associated with your workplace (casual dress is acceptable). Visitors will be seated either singly, or in pairs, at a table. Small groups of young people, age 13/14, will be rotated round the volunteers, and will attempt to guess your job by asking appropriate questions. Visitors can answer” yes” or” no”. After an appropriate length of time, the facilitator will indicate that the visitor can tell the pupils what they do, if they haven’t guessed correctly. The remaining time can be spent explaining the role. For example, why did you choose the job, your training route, good day, bad day, and potential progression. You may also choose to talk about your everyday tasks, and how you apply key skills such as numeracy, IT and problem solving.
No preparation is required of visitors. You may choose to bring along some small ”props” as an aid to guessing. If you are in a post with a non specific title, such as Project Manager, it may be easier to “downgrade” yourself to make it easier for pupils to guess a role.
