Careers in the Creative Sector - Inspire our students!
Hi there!
We are a 6th Form school based in South London with huge ambitions about surroundings raising aspirations and growing knowledge on careers. I am desperately seeking someone working within the Creative Sector (you do not need to be creative yourself) to come and speak to our 6th Form for around 40 minutes on Friday 25th September at 11:50am.
To give you an insight into our school, we have a hugely diverse cohort, with many coming from backgrounds of socio-economic deprivation. The majority of our students are BAME backgrounds.
We run a 'Career of the Term' every half term and across September and October, we will be looking at the Creative Sector. I want an understanding of creative careers to run through all of our curriculum - from Art to Maths, and we are aiming to have volunteers from various professions flying the flag and getting all subjects involved in the discussion.
Through the Career speech, I want students to hear from an engaging speaker who can talk about themselves and their career with passion. I am not looking for our future doctors and scientists to necessarily change their goals but I want them to understand the sector, it's growth and take away the message that a variety of skills are needed to support this industry. This person might have faced their own challenges or adversity or might just be able to connect really well with our students - we are really open and would simply love to have you!
Below is a some tips via Founders for school but please feel free to get in touch with me directly.

A successful business leader can inspire a group of students by talking in-depth about the journey they took from school through their career. This format usually includes one business leader talking for an extended period of time.
A business leader can ‘tell a story’ about their career journey:
• What inspired them to choose their career path
• Why they find it high impact
• What they enjoy most about their career
• What subjects did the study and what decisions did they make along the way
• What mistakes did they make and how did they learn from them
• What skills is their company currently looking for in their new hires
As the Keynote Career speech generally have less business leaders, the speakers can offer a more focussed, in-depth and comprehensive discussion. They will take students through their entire journey and reflect on their successes and failures in the world of employment. There will also be a Q&A session so that students can ask their own questions.
These meaningful encounters inspire students and have a positive impact on their future life choices.
