Senior Phase Induction Days

Following the success of the last two of our Senior Phase Induction Programme , I would like to invite you to participate in this year’s Programme which takes place here at Mackie Academy on Monday 4th, Tuesday 5th June and Wednesday 6th June 2018. The programme is designed to support our students as they move through their Senior Phase (S4-S6) and begin to consider their pathway onto a positive destination. Your input as regards working within your sector would be of great value and will help educate our young people in careers within your industry.

A key part of this event for our S4- S6 pupils is the opportunity to explore a variety of different industry sectors. In order to provide the greatest possible choice for our pupils, we are aiming to gain representation from a wide variety of sectors, and are most keen to gain your support as a volunteer to represent your own area of expertise. This would involve offering either a full session or part of a shared session about your own experience of following your chosen pathway. We would hope time allows for feedback and Q and A at the end of each session. Last year our visitors presented in a variety of ways from interactive workshops and power point presentations, to informal group discussion. Visitors preferred to talk about their own particular role within their sector, which made the sessions where professionals within related industries presented in the same session very interesting. Previous sessions included information on the following, however any input you are willing to provide to our pupils would be fantastic:

• Routes into your industry eg, apprenticeships, further and higher education, employment
• Entry requirements
• Career opportunities within your industry
• Advantages of working within your industry
• Preferred skill set for relevant roles
• ‘A day in the life’ of your particular job or jobs in your sector
• Salary ranges within your sector
• Alternative/ additional opportunities within your sector eg, travel abroad

The sessions take place as follows:

For each day there are three sessions for which you can sign up. We are mindful that you are all very busy and therefore we thought that asking for your input for selected sessions may be more manageable for you as opposed to asking for you to commit to whole days. Additionally, you will be more than welcome to join us for refreshments at break time and/or lunchtime. We will let you know more about the details of the programme in the near future, however if you do have some flexibility as regards the time you may be able to commit to our programme please can you highlight this in your email. If you are able to offer your services for more than one session please could you also let us know. Equally if you are aware of anyone else who may be willing to participate in our Induction Programme please can you pass on their details.
