Step into STEM - Encouraging girls into Engineering
On November 22nd we will be opening our doors to Reading Girls School and Oakbank School. 35-40 girls from across year 11 will be joining us for our 'Step into STEM' event. These girls are at a turning point in their lives, making choices about their next steps and we want them to be confident that the world of STEM is open to them.
Our goal is to introduce these industries in a fun and exciting way, to show them where/what they can study next and the employers who are waiting for them at the finish line. The day is broken into a series of one-hour workshops and we already have some extraordinary people joining us, and we need you!
Our engineering workshop has been set up to show the wonderful vibrancy and variety within the industry and start to break down some of the misconception and stereotyping of what engineering is.
We are inviting a range of engineers to join us on the day. The girls will be given the task to speak to as many engineers as possible to find out what they do. The girls will then be asked to answer the question "what is an engineer?".
This will be a networking set-up, however you are welcome to bring along any props, technology and information to show what it is you do.
The workshop will take place from 2-3, however, if you are interested you may join us for the whole day 9-3.
