About the teacher and students

The event was created by Teresa Phillips for 75 students at Thomas Willingale Primary School and Nursery aged Age 9 - 11.

Event description

Inspire our students to have high aspirations and growth mindsets

Some of our children have low aspirations and often don't see the purpose for learning.
We have a large number of under performing boys who don't see the need to read and write. We want to instill a purpose in them and make them excited to learn.

We want all of our children to understand why they taught things like different aspects of Maths and science and how this contributes to what they may want to become.
Many of our children talk of wanting to be famous or a you tuber, this is because they have access to these options as careers at them moment but do not know about a wider scope.

The area we are in is deprived and a large proportion of families are unemployed or in poorly paid jobs, we want to enable and help children not to continue this cycle of deprivation.

Speakers will ‘tell a story’ about their career journey:
• Subjects they studied and how these are relevant now
• What inspired them to choose their career path
• Their failures, as well as successes
• What their company does and why this is important
• What they enjoy most about their career
• Skills currently relevant in the jobs they are doing now.
