Event description

S2 Numeracy In The World of Work Event

The event aims to:
- highlight the importance of numeracy in the world of work in a wide range of careers with a view to motivate the pupils to continue to develop their numeracy skills
• for pupils to understand how vital these skills are to the world of work and your business/role in particular.

Employee would host 2 x 20 minute sessions with a class group:
• outline the employer and employee role to increase knowledge of different occupations – what is it like working there ? What do they do ?
• discuss how you entered your career – was it your first job ? Did you do other things before this? What qualification(s) do you need to do the role ?
• discuss different numeracy elements of your job role to show how maths at school is relevant
• if possible, a short activity or demonstration of how they use numeracy in the world of work would be great to engage the pupils e.g.
 modern apprentice numeracy tests ?
 equipment that uses numbers ?
 simple business accounts ?
There will be access to IT if videos/powerpoint are to be used.
