Maths in the World of Work
We are looking for employers to help us on the 9th November 2017 from 11.35am - 3.35pm. If interested could you please let me know as soon as possible so that we can start making arrangements.
Any support is highly appreciated.
Purpose - To demonstrate the relevance and importance of numeracy and mathematics in the World of Work
Aim - To give the pupils the opportunity to apply their mathematical skills in an interactive and contextualised activity
Brief - Devise a fun, practical activity/challenge related to your occupation which demonstrates the practical application of numeracy and allows pupils to use their mathematical skill. The activity should also inspire young people to consider following your career when they leave school.
The event will be for S4/5/6 young people so all of school leaving age and will be a round-robin/speed networking style event and young people will visit various employers. This is to open up new career ideas or to confirm what they have chosen. Also the numeracy side of it is to bring numeracy to life in the working world. The group sizes will probably be around 15 depending on how many employers we can get in. We will probably go for maximum 30 minutes in each session but if anything changes I will let you know.
All we are asking is that each employer explain a little about who they are, what they do and how they managed to get into the job they are in at the moment. Then probably a discussion or activity that the young people can take part in or watch that explains or shows how numeracy is used in each employers industry/job. Young people will probably ask questions too.
