Event description

Inspire students from your local area through brand new Barclays LifeSkills programme

LifeSkills, created with Barclays helps to give young people the skills they need to take their next step - whether that’s going straight into work, sixth form, college or university. Working with The Transformation Trust, the programme is designed to achieve depth of reach with a specific cohort, by exposing them to facilitated workshops over a year within a small group, consisting of various LifeSkills materials which have been tailored to the labour market in their area. These workshops are also going to be supported by a group of Barclays mentors and a trained facilitator who will attend each session. In between each session, students will log onto an online platform on which the Barclays mentors will set them tasks (e.g. completing a personality quiz, submitting their CV for review etc.)

Working with a group of 20 white working class males in year 10 in Bradford, Ipswich and Oldham, we are looking for inspirational leaders in the local labour market to give a 20 minutes talk, to inspire the students and relay to them the wealth of opportunities in the local area. The talks will be focussed on some of the key themes in the programme, such as recognising your skills, developing confidence and 21st century skills, inspiring an enterprising mind-set, building and showcasing skills for the future workplace and presenting the best version of yourself. At the end of the programme we aim to offer the students a week long work placement at local businesses. In this session, we will be covering developing confidence and 21st-century skills and we are looking for speakers who have great insight in problem-solving and overcoming adversity.
