Event description

Maths in the World of Work

Purpose

To demonstrate: the relevance and importance of Maths in the world of work.
Aim
To give the pupils the opportunity to apply their mathematical skills in a contextualised “work activity.”

When

Wednesday 7th June
10.45 am– 11.00 am set up workshops Tea/coffee

11.00am – 12.30pm: Introduction &Workshops duration-10/15 minutes per workshop.

Target
S3 pupils in mixed ability groups of about 6 pupils

Brief
• Devise an activity/challenge related to your occupation/organisation which will allow the children to use their mathematical skills. For example: Joiner- May set a challenge related to measuring, using plans. Glasgow Action on Alcohol – working out how many units in various drink
• Each workshop will last about 10/15 minutes which will allow the pupils to rotate and have the opportunity to work with as many different employers/organisations as possible. If you require any further details please contact
• Pupils will be taking notes as they pass through your station as they will be given a quiz on their return to the maths department the following day. In this case we would appreciate if you could provide 2 questions relating to your occupation/organisation each with 4 multiple choice answers
