Business Role Models in Sustainability

The world of sustainability provides various opportunities for young people to build fulfilling careers not just for themselves, but for the benefit of people and the planet. However, most of them lack the awareness on the options that are available to them. This is why we need more volunteers from a range of sectors to inspire young people to take sustainable career pathways! By meeting role models, young people can have access to sustainable career opportunities and develop the ability to create positive impact.

What is the Sustainable Futures Project?

The Sustainable Futures Project has been created through a partnership between WWF-UK, Villiers Park Educational Trust, and Founders4Schools, match-funded by the Education Evolution Trust, where we are addressing an urgent need to upskill and inspire young people into sustainable career pathways. We are looking for people in the world of work to speak to young people about green skills and sustainable practices across all sectors and offer work experience opportunities.

What is a Sustainability Event?

Our Sustainability Event aims to link role models in sustainability with young people, to raise awareness of sustainable careers, and the importance of sustainable skills for their future and of the planet.

What is the impact of a Sustainability Event?

By meeting role models in sustainability, young people will gain a deeper understanding of the environmental crisis and the opportunities available to them. Students are then able to make informed and positive decisions about their career path and lifestyle – enabling them to contribute to addressing environmental challenges and giving them the best chance to find purpose and professional success. Young people will learn about the wide range of careers in sustainability, not just ‘green careers’ and will feel enthused and educated about their next steps.

How can business role models make a difference?

According to the 2023 Youth Voice Census published by Youth Employment UK, almost 75% of young people today have never heard of "green jobs" or "green skills." To support young people in learning about sustainable career pathways, role models who have practical experience in various sectors are key. By sharing your career journey and insights on what it takes to make a difference in your field, young people will be motivated and equipped to create a positive impact on people on the planet through their career choices!
